Sophie's percussive Winter
As she finishes reading the task brief, Sophie moves towards an old box camera, and then attempts to try to play it like an accordion, based on the appearance of its ribbing.
After some time, she gathers a multitude of drinking glasses in different sizes and shapes, which she hits with a small paintbrush to hear what pitches ring. While rehearsing her performance, she manages to break one of the glasses by hitting it too hard, which she then apologises for.
Sophie’s performance begins with her hitting the glasses to a beat, and then she alternates between hitting the glasses and the table top. She also hits the surface of a slightly smaller table she has placed next to the main table, before hitting the brass feather piece she has placed on top of it.
Getting carried away in her performance, Sophie then throws both paintbrushes up in the air before slapping the surface of the table, dancing around, and stomping on the floor with a cane. As Alex claps her performance, Sophie acknowledges that the last few moments of her piece were improvised.
In the studio, Greg says that Sophie’s performance had looked like something that would be tail-ended by someone saying “Ah, bless her!”. Sophie reveals that she had felt really amped during her performance, but knew that when she threw the paintbrushes up into the air, she was “fucked”.
Joanne says she was able to recognise the piece that Sophie was playing, guessing that it was a tune which had been used for a Dulux paint advert. Sophie confirms that Joanne had “nailed it”, and it is then revealed that the piece she was playing was the Winter concerto from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
Greg awards Sophie 2 points for her effort.
