Steve's unrecognisable wine glass and bottle performance
Steve’s first instinct is to find something that provides resonance when blown. He blows on almost everything he can find on the mantelpiece, including a model train, a teapot, and several vases and cups. He also fills some wine glasses with water, and drags his finger around their rims, imitating a glass harp.
Steve’s performance begins with him holding three bottles filled with water and playing a wine glass with his finger. He blows a melody of sorts into the bottles while he does so and, as he plays his final few notes, he takes a bow, spilling a good quantity of the water on the floor in the process.
In the studio, Alex initially reveals that the piece Steve had been playing was Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. However, Steve says that that wasn’t the piece he was trying to play, and is then asked if the tune was meant to be Greensleeves. Steve claims that this was the case, and offers to hum the melody as his performance is replayed. However, the melody of Greensleeves doesn’t seem to match up, either rhythmically or melodically, to his performance, prompting Alex to suggest that he should’ve stuck with what they’d originally assumed.
Due to Steve’s performance not sounding like either Symphony No. 9 nor Greensleeves, Greg awards him just 1 point. Steve is shocked and confounded that his performance was considered worse than Joanne’s, who hadn’t made any noise at all, and he states that perhaps he should’ve just blown into the bottles while saying “Greensleeves” over and over, instead.
