Eero relies on an idiom
After agonising about how he can open the bin from a distance, Eero realises that it has a separate bucket inside of it, and removes it.
However, he then abandons this plan as worthless, reasoning that the bin lid would still remain open (in the studio, Eero yells at his past self for not realising that he could just close the bin lid).
Eventually just wanting to log a result, Eero tosses a pebble into the bin while opening it with his hand, which he estimates to have been a 10cm throw.
Eero continues to agonise about how he could open the bin from a distance, before getting the idea to find “a damn long stick”, and running off to the shed. He finds a long tube, and tells Pilvi that his throw will start from the shed.
He tosses a ping pong ball into one end of the tube, and then walks the tube over to the bin, balancing the ping pong ball within it (given the care Eero takes with his transportation, it seems that he is trying to keep it constantly rolling around inside of the tube).
Calling the moment “the most exciting thing you will ever see on Finnish television”, Eero then uses his foot to open the bin, and tilts the tube towards it, dumping the ping pong ball inside.
In the studio, Jaakko compliments Eero’s attempt, referencing the Finnish idiom ‘se meni putkeen’ (literally ‘it went in the pipe’, meaning things went smoothly; comparable to the English phrase ‘you nailed it’).
Eero’s successful throw is measured at 40.35 metres, and he wins the task.
