Taskmaster Intro
Good evening to everyone at home. Good evening here in the studio. Welcome to Taskmaster, the show where great figures who spent years building a career and a respectable public image, will ruin them in just a few minutes, for the enjoyment of a lot of people, starting with me. But the efforts of these living legends are justified. At the end of the day, at the end of this season, one of them will take home the best prize that a TV show has ever given: my head. Not in a literal way, because I need that one, but we're talking about this head of mine. This magnificent golden version. It could be yours! Just call the number that's showing up on your screen. Once again, this will be the prize that either Inês, or Gilmário, Or Jessica, or Toy will take home at the end of the season. And this prize shows that the taxpayers' money is being well spent.
Contestant Intros
Born in Porto, she recently became a mom for the second time, and confesses that she can’t sleep. But wait, that has nothing to do with the baby, but instead is due to the trauma of having lost the first season of Taskmaster to Toy. Inês Aires Pereira!
Someone who, when he was a kid, saw Chris Rock doing stand-up. And he thought that, in his own words, it was ‘funny’ and ‘clever’. Curiously, tonight he told me that he wants to be the champion of the second season of Taskmaster, so he could ‘celebrated’ and ‘scrubate’ in his ‘coleages’ faces. It’s Gilmário Vemba!
Note: Vasco uses several nonsense words that sound close to the words they’re meant to be during this introduction; this English translation is an interpretation of how this might sound to Portuguese listeners.
A woman who, in a recent interview with Notícias Magazine, said – and I quote: “I’m ready to only count on myself.” Clearly someone who understood from the first season of this show that, during the tasks, Nuno Markl doesn’t help anyone. Ladies and gentlemen, Jessica Athayde!
Note: Vasco is specifically referencing this interview.
One of the biggest singers in our country, who confessed that he thinks the term ‘pimba’ is really silly, because ‘pimba’ doesn’t translate into any other language. I would love it if he was in France and started the movement ‘Le Pimbat’, and in Germany, of ‘Das Pimben’. Applause for the amazing Toy!
Note: Toy is a pimba singer. Pimba is a Portuguese genre of music with an up-tempo style and folk song features. It features lyrics which are silly, sentimental, and often sexual.
One of the faces of this channel. One of the most loved persons by all Portuguese people. She’s called ‘Taninha’. She’s called ‘Tanocas’. And she responds by calling our Gilmário ‘Gervásio Vemba’. It’s Tânia Ribas de Oliveira!
Note: In November 2021, during an interview with the Angolan singer Anselmo Ralph (who, at the time, was touring with Gilmário), Tânia got Gilmario’s name wrong twice, first calling him “Gilmário Vieira”, and then “Gervásio”. Anselmo (and Gilmário) found it funny, with Anselmo demanding to know what the producers were putting in Tânia’s water.
Assistant Intro
Another Taskmaster, and by my side, as always, a man that used to listen to Samantha Fox in the loneliness of his teenage bedroom, but only the parts where she sighed and moaned. Those were, in his words, the most ‘pleasant’ and ‘musical’ parts to his ear. Ladies and gentlemen, show your love for the one and only Nuno Markl!
Note: Samantha Fox is a British pop star who started her career as a glamour model.
Taskmaster's Sign-off
Sometimes, life puts us in check.
To keep the flame lit, we need all hands on deck.
Don’t be hostile. You should be gentle.
And drink Groselha through a funnel.
Everything is relative in here. Amazing you might feel.
And cardboard, to Gilmário, might be a meal.
Sometimes the world is calm, other times there’s a ripple.
You can feel joy or shivers in a nipple.
