Wormsley Estate

Links:

Founded by the Scrope family in the late 16th Century and passing to descendent Thomas Fane in 1720, the Wormsley Estate remained with the Fane family until it was bought by Sir Paul Getty in 1985.

Sir Paul and Lady Getty embarked on a restoration of the estate, renovating more than 30 buildings including Wormsley House and The Walled Gardens.

The improvement programme also involved additions such as the Deer Park Lake, a world-renowned cricket ground, and the castellated library, which houses one of the finest private collections of books and manuscripts in the country.

Today, Wormsley is one of the residences of Mark and Caterina Getty and their family. Mark’s passion for the arts and opera is most visible through his decision in 2011 to provide a home on the estate for Garsington Opera, and the construction of the Opera Pavilion.

Although primarily a private family home, the estate is used by individuals and organisations to host meetings, conferences, private dining experiences, festivals, corporate days, family days, cricket events, country sports days, private parties, and weddings, accommodating up to 5,000 guests.
