Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Einar brings in two large packs of new socks - one containing plain white socks, and one containing plain black ones. He argues - and Atle agrees - that it is a very useful gift because you don’t have to spend as much time trying to pair your socks, if they’re all the same. He earns second place.
  • Amir brings in a pair of wireless headphones, decorated with colourful and shiny adornments, which he says he and his daughter made, for his wife, for Mother’s Day. He says that she likes to go jogging in the woods, so he thinks that she would be very easy to find, if she went missing while wearing the very colourful headphones. He also notes that they have never been used. He earns fourth place.
  • Ida brings in two rings made using fur from her cats (Yolo and Miley), which match the earrings she brought in for the ‘Something made by a family member’ prize task, in episode 3. She suggests that they are a very good gift, and are also sustainable, because they are made from a renewable resource which can be collected from her cats while they are sleeping. She also attempts to argue that they are unisex, giving one to Steinar to wear as a demonstration. She earns third place.
  • Solveig brings in an accordion that she had bought as a Christmas present for her husband, seven years previously. She says that she goes on holiday to a boathouse every year, and had always wanted an Evert Taube-like figure (famous Swedish musician) on the pier there, singing and playing for her. Unfortunately, her gift had apparently not been well received by her husband. Solveig suggests that perhaps Atle might make a good Evert Taube-like figure, so she would like to gift the accordion to him. However, Atle reveals that his own wife had already given him an accordion, just a few weeks previously. Solveig earns last place.
  • Steinar brings in a childhood photo of himself and his younger brother (Tore Sagen, who is also a comedian and actor), whom he describes as having been a gift he’d received almost 40 years ago. He does acknowledge that his brother is a bit of a jerk, but it is agreed that he is offering up of a brother, as opposed to his actual brother. He earns first place.
