Task brief

The task brief is laid upon a red cushion on the table, along with a single white feather, in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get this feather into the bath.

You must not touch the feather, and the feather must not touch the ground.

After the feather has left its cushion, it must not touch a single thing for more than five seconds in total.

The cushion must not leave the lab.

If you make any mistake at all, Alex will blow his whistle, and you must start all over again.

Fastest wins.

Finally, you must not say any words at any point from now on.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The bathtub is not in its usual location outside, but has been hidden underneath a sheet in the living room.
  • The place where the bathtub would normally be is instead occupied by a pile of empty cardboard boxes covered in sheets.

Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • John initially took the feather on the cushion to the lab door, dropping it in the process, whilst Dara went to get paper plates, spatulas, and a dustpan. After attempting once to transition the feather between the different items, they dropped the feather again on the floor and lost it. Once they found it, the trio managed to use a large number of paper plates to get the feather outside, but realised that the bathtub's usual location was instead occupied by a pile of empty cardboard boxes covered in a sheets. They eventually managed to locate the bath in the living room, but dropped the feather again before they could get there. With the location of the bathtub identified, though, they finally got the feather into the bath in 7 minutes and 45 seconds, winning the task. In the studio, Fern referred to "the system of endless plates" they had developed, thus coining the title of the episode.
  • Munya first went out to the shed to look for a leaf blower, whilst Sarah gestured to Alex about the stench in the lab that she had caused in a previous task. Munya returned empty-handed, so Sarah had to go and take another look in the shed for it. After finding the leaf blower (and apparently being overjoyed at doing so) she brought it to the lab, where Munya attempted to blow the feather whilst she wafted it with a guitar. After that didn't work, the two left the room to find other props. Sarah returned with several trays, and Munya returned with several pipes. They ended up creating a tunnel to the bathtub, through which they could blow the feather, using the leaf blower. They managed to get the feather into the bath in 24 minutes and 25 seconds, earning 2 points each.
