The task brief is laid on top of a wooden box on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Get the cake into the box.
Most intact cake in the box within 2.5 minutes wins.

Task notes
- The wooden box has a hinged lid, with a perspex window set into it, into which a small circular hole has been cut. The lid of the box is secured with a padlock.
- Also on the table, there is a circular cake covered in frosting, with four lit birthday candles.
- The top of the cake is also decorated with what looks like a thin disc of marzipan, onto which a silver key has been piped in icing. This addition is purely to mislead the contestants into believing that the key for the padlock is hidden within the cake, which it is not.
- Before the contestants’ attempts are shown, Olli reveals that the easiest way to get the cake into the box is just to lift the entire box up, since the bottom of the box is completely loose.
