Task brief
The task brief is laid on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Work out the contents of these bags.
You may not open the bags.
You can either:
A) Ask Antoine to make a tiny hole in each bag, and observe the contents for five minutes, during which you must eat at least one big spoonful from each bag;
B) Ask Antoine to put everything in the blender for a minute, and then observe the contents for 10 minutes, during which you have to eat at least one big spoonful of the blended contents.
You must make your choice in the next 30 seconds.
Task notes
- Also on the table, there is a large spoon and five different coloured plastic bags filled with mixed foods. The contents of each bag are as follows:
- White bag – chocolate-hazelnut spread and nachos (any chocolate-based answer is accepted)
- Pink bag – cabbage/kale and caramel
- Green bag – granola and gravy (anything oat-based is accepted, e.g. oatmeal or porridge)
- Blue bag – banana and beef bouillon (chicken bouillon is also accepted)
- Purple bag – mustard and mayonnaise
- The addition of the caveat to option B, forcing he contestants to eat some of the blended contents may have been inspired by Morgana Robinson’s solution to this task, wherein she made Alex taste the contents for her.
- As everyone chooses option A, Antoine brings out a container of the contents of all five bags blended together for Louis to try, which he actually does. After drinking a surprising amount of the sludge, Louis claims that the mixture just tastes like mustard (before having a difficult time keeping his composure, when the aftertaste of everything else kicks in).
