Task brief

The actual text of the task brief is not known. The text below is paraphrased based on information disclosed in the episode:

Make your balloon as heavy as possible by attaching things to it from the table behind you.

You may only attach things to the balloon itself, and once something’s been attached, it may not be removed.

If the balloon bursts, you may have a new one.

However, if it bursts after your time is up, that’s too bad. You won’t have anything to weigh.

When you’re done, you’ll carry the balloon to the weighing scale by holding only the stick. You may not hold onto anything else, or support the balloon.

Whoever has the heaviest balloon wins.

You have one minute.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The contestants are lined up side-by-side on stage, each standing behind a table.
  • On each table, there is an inflated yellow balloon on a stick, stood in a glass vase, and a roll of tape.
  • On a larger table at the back of the stage, there are five of each of a variety of items which the contestants may attempt to attach to their balloons, including: large tin cans, toilet rolls, small plastic bowling pins, large glass bottles, candle-sticks, skeins of yarn, bars of soap, small potted cacti, shuttlecocks, babies’ rattles, glass bowls, napkins, wooden blocks, reels of thread, padlocks, golf balls, small bouncy rubber balls, plastic beach boules balls, small rice steaming baskets, coat-hangers, and conical paper party hats. There is also a pile of feathers in a variety of colours.
  • At the front of the stage, there is a small table with an analogue weighing scale on it.
  • Olli has a collection of spare balloons to hand to the contestants, stood in a large jar on the floor behind him.
