The task brief is held within a mechanical contraption on the table in the living room. The brief for the task is as follows:
Make the most fantastic 15-second film featuring your face in full frame.
You have 15 minutes to film your fantastic 15-second full-framed face film.

Task notes
- The contraption – known as the Task-O-Matic – is a wooden box with a glass lid, and contains a series of wooden gears and other mechanisms which are powered by a hand crank on the outside.
- According to a small plaque on the front of the Task-O-Matic, it was manufactured by ‘Advise Heron Ltd’ (‘Advise Heron’ being an anagram of both ‘Davies Horne’ and ‘A Devonshire’, referencing both the show hosts and its director) in 2014 (presumably a reference to the year the show was first commissioned).
- The contestants are instructed to turn the handle on the machine, which causes the task brief within to be slowly unfolded by a pair of weathered-looking mannequin hands.
