Pamela dusts off her German
After reading the initial brief, Pamela – still unsure as to the goal of the task – opens a nearby task envelope, before asking Pilvi if she’s meant to open all of the envelopes until she finds the one that is meant for her.
Pamela is not particularly rushed, tearing off envelopes from the walls one at a time before opening them. She eventually comes across one in German, and manages to read the entire thing aloud, before reasoning that ‘hier ist nicht’ (‘this is not’) is likely a negative, and moving on.
After opening more task envelopes, Pirjo worries that the one she is seeking is one of the ones written in a foreign language, as she is unable to understand them. As she continues to open more envelopes, she attempts to reassure herself that she had focused on specific words in the foreign tasks and identified them as likely being negative words.
She then finds the actual task brief, and quickly whistles.
In the studio, Jaakko compliments Pamela’s understanding of German, despite her comment during her attempt that she was not good with foreign languages. Pamela replies that she had studied German in secondary school, but that all she really remembers how to say is “Ich bin Pamela, ich wohne in Suhmura” (‘I’m Pamela, I live in Suhmura’).
Pamela later requests a bonus point for speaking German, but Jaakko defers to when he will actually award scores, as he has not seen all of the attempts yet (ultimately, he does not).
When the contestants’ times are announced, Pamela (who took longer than both Pirjo and Joonas) attempts to argue that the task had been unfair, as the envelopes were placed arbitrarily around the room. Joonas counters that, if not all of the task envelopes, then at least the one that actually mattered was always in the same location for everyone. Pirjo follows up by pointing out that the whole show is arbitrary, and Jaakko agrees, saying it wouldn’t be fun if it wasn’t.
Pamela whistles in 3 minutes and 18 seconds, and earns third place.
