Pirjo screams at dishes

As Pirjo’s attempt is shown in a short montage with Pamela’s and Joonas’, not much footage of her attempt is seen.

She uses her left hand to build her tower, and starts trying to increase its height very quickly, initially alternating plates and mugs, but quickly graduating to stacking two mugs on top of one another, between the plates.

When part of her tower falls and breaks, she takes a moment to step back and reconsider her plan, but then continues with her original technique. She does, however, choose to stop building with time remaining on the clock, seemingly having run out of mugs, and recognising that adding any more weight to her tower will likely cause it to collapse.

She then removes her protective goggles and tries to add them to the top of her tower, while screaming at the dishes that she knew they would collapse if any more weight were added to them. She then ends up holding the goggles in place on top of the tower until her time runs out, pleading with Pilvi to go ahead and measure it. In footage that does not make the edit of her attempt, Pirjo does eventually manage to let go of her goggles without her tower collapsing.

In the studio, Jaakko asks Pirjo if she believes that if she screams at the dishes loud enough, that she can actually stop them from falling. Pirjo simply replies that she’ll try anything. She then questions if the protective goggles were counted in her tower’s height (just as in English, the same word in Finnish is used for different types of ‘glass’: the material itself, drinking glasses, and eyewear), stating that she had taken “artistic license” by adding them to her tower. Pirjo seems to have misremembered the wording of the task brief, believing that it had instructed her to stack ‘glasses’, and not ‘dishes’, and Pilvi confirms that they were not counted in the tower’s height.

Pirjo builds a 62.5cm tower, and earns third place, but only 2 points, after Jaakko deducts a point when it is revealed that Pirjo had touched the dishes with her non-socked hand almost immediately after reading the task brief (although she at least realised she had done so at the time, unlike a few of the other contestants).

[Note: given the height of her tower, Pirjo should have earned second place. It is not known why Pamela’s shorter tower was placed second instead.]
