Sointu appeals to the public

After testing the musicality of the nearby typewriter’s keys, Sointu heads to the kitchen.

She sets out an array of glass receptacles and clinks them with a knife, surprised when she accidentally plays something fairly close to the opening bars of Ukko Nooa.

Sointu returns with her glasses to the living room and arranges them on the table, pointing out to Pilvi that Ukko Nooa is meant to be played in C major.

She goes around the room, banging the knife on various objects to test their sounds, to see if she can add them to her ad hoc drum set, eventually adding a vase and a small decorative copper urn.

For her actual performance, Sointu opens by dinging a few service bells, before striking her collection of glasses in a somewhat recognisable version of the melody as she sings along, ending by clanging two pots together.

In the studio, when Jaakko asks Sointu what her intended emotion was, she replies that she was aiming for something “more pure and traditional” than Eero and Joonas had attempted, and that she had wanted to “appeal to the public’s nostalgia and sense of clarity”.

Jaakko awards Sointu third place.
