Marie-Lyne makes a volcano

Marie-Lyne predicts that she herself will win the task, as “at some point, you have to believe in yourself”.

Marie-Lyne fetches a tarp from the shed and has Antoine spread it out on the lawn, weighing it down with bricks.

As he does so, Marie-Lyne takes a quick trip off of the property, and returns with a bottle of “unspecified brown soda” (Pepsi) and a roll of Mentos.

Recognising that for the best results, all of the Mentos need to enter the bottle at once, Marie-Lyne stacks them into a graduated cylinder, and blocks the opening with a square of cardboard.

Marie-Lyne holds the cylinder and charges Antoine with removing the cardboard at her signal, but warns him that he will need to run away quickly after doing so. Antoine points out that he’s 50 years old, and out of shape.

Marie-Lyne’s idea isn’t bad, and the resulting spray is somewhat impressive, but her main issue appears to be that she had opened the soda before preparing the Mentos, leading to the soda losing a good amount of its carbonation.

As she had suggested should be done during her attempt, a replay of the result is then played in the studio in slow motion, and set to dramatic music.

Marie-Lyne creates a 1.2 metre high splash, and earns fourth place.
