Phil makes a bass guitar
Phil immediately removes the pedometer from the shoe, and starts shaking it by hand as he searches the shed for something to assist him.
He initially attaches the pedometer to an electric drill, but abandons this idea when the number on the pedometer does not actually increase when the drill is switched on.
He listens to the pedometer while shaking it, and realises that there’s some sort of ball moving around inside which counts the steps, so reasons that he needs to move it up and down, rather than rotating it like the drill was doing.
Phil searches the shed again, and emerges with a rope. He ties one end of the rope to the balcony fence by the Le Maître du Jeu house, and clips the pedometer to the middle of it.
While Phil holds the loose end of the rope, he plucks the string “like a bass guitar”, at one point even offering a curious Antoine the opportunity to do so for a while.
In contrast to the very animated Kevin – who tapped the pedometer and shoe like a drum, while singing – Phil sits very still and quiet for most of his time, simply plucking at the rope. Eventually, however, he leans more into the guitar idea, and so starts playing the rope like it’s an electric guitar.
Phil’s pedometer records 2,552 steps, and he earns second place.
