Phil just blows out the candle
Using one of the long pipes, Phil initially counts how many floor tiles there are between him and the candle (17).
After looking over the provided items, Phil then runs out of the room and returns with several tall chairs, which he arranges in a line across the floor, leading to the candle.
He then attaches one end of the hose to two blocks with a bungee cord, and attaches the other end to the vacuum cleaner. Once switched on, the vacuum cleaner provides enough air to make the candle’s flame flicker, but not enough to actually extinguish it.
After readjusting the end of the hose closest to the candle, Phil enlists Antoine’s help to hold it just a little closer to the flame.
After once again trying – and failing – to extinguish the candle with his hose and vacuum cleaner set-up, Phil then tries blowing into the hose, before just running up to the candle in his final five seconds and blowing it out with his mouth.
It is only after his attempt is over that the camera reveals that part of the hose underneath the table had been tangled, explaining why Phil’s system had not worked.
Phil extinguishes the candle from just 22 centimetres away, and earns last place.
