Maria the cat lady

Maria opens the jar of durian to smell it and, while she doesn’t seem to recoil, she says that the fruit is not for her, indicating that she finds the smell disgusting.

She gives serious consideration to eating the cat food, as she believes no-one else will eat it (notably, all of the contestants whose attempts were shown before hers had agreed that she would likely eat the cat food, as she gives off “cat lady” vibes, for good or bad).

Maria asks if she is allowed to cook any of the items, and David agrees. Maria leaves the lab and returns with a variety of additional items of food to make her chosen item – the cat food, as predicted – more palatable: apricot marmalade, a banana, some cream, and some quark.

She initially tries a bite of the cat food unseasoned, to see how she can best make her chosen condiments work for her. Ultimately, she decides to mix it with the banana and add some cream. She admits that it tastes better than some of the things she has cooked.

She then takes a few more bites of the cat food, topped with quark and apricot jam. Finally, an unbothered Maria finishes off the cat food by putting it on a cookie, and topping it in whipped cream (in the studio, Babben uses her cards to cover her eyes at the sight), which causes David to retch and step away.

Maria even licks the plate when she finishes, and tops it all off with a large squirt of whipped cream directly into her mouth.

In the studio, Babben informs Maria that the footage of her eating cat food has replaced Måns Möller’s Brussels sprouts eating as the most disgusting thing she has ever seen on the show.

Maria admits that whenever she had farted, for several days following, it had smelled of cat food.

Maria earns joint first place.
