Nick makes a sticky end

Nick first heads to the shed to source some materials, initially returning with some tape, bungee cords, and a chain. He then decides to make what he calls “a really sticky end” to retrieve patatas, returning to the shed to source some magnets, before fashioning a fishing rod out of a snooker cue, along with the chain, magnets, and tape.

Dropping his magnetic fishing line in through the top of the dome, he manages to get the magnets to attach to Patatas’ metal hook. He then attempts to pull her back up through the hole in the top of the dome, but finds that the combined weight of his device and the cat is heavier than it looks. Nick notes at this point that he wishes he was taller, as it would be much easier then for him to get the cat back out through the hole. As he pulls on the chain to retrieve the cat, she catches on the rim of the hole and becomes detached from the magnet, falling back into the dome.

Nick adjusts his technique, poking his magnetic fishing rod in through one of the holes in the side of the dome and managing to bring her back towards him. He then detaches the magnet from Patatas and manages to fling the cat right through the hole in the top of the dome and up onto the roof of the house.

In the studio, Greg points out that neither Nick nor Sophie seemed particularly concerned about the cat’s welfare, during the task. Nick responds to this by asking if that was a part of the task. Greg acknowledges that it was not, but states that he would have expected some kindness from Nick.

Alex reveals that Nick completed the task in 14 minutes, which earns him third place and 3 points.
