John’s massive snail
Having read the task brief, John states that he is going to “stay away from the horses”, because he is a little apprehensive about them.
However, as he marks out his drawing in the field, he eventually has to walk directly through the herd to continue his line, but is very wary of moving directly behind any of them.
At one point, he apparently gets way too hot in his Freddie Mercury leather jacket, and has to remove it and work in the vest he is wearing beneath.
In the studio, after Alex states that the production team had been worried about the presence of the horses, John observes that he found it odd, after the number of health and safety conversations he’d had during filming of the show, that no-one had indicated any concern about him creating a giant join-the-dots picture around the herd. In response, Alex jokes “No. And there were land mines.”
John’s join-the-dots picture is revealed in the studio second, and very clearly depicts a snail, receiving enthusiastic applause from the audience, and a relieved “Thank you” from Greg, who then calls it “your classic dot-to-dot”. John agrees, but also emphasises that it had been completed “on a massive scale, with horses, in a heatwave, in a Freddie Mercury jacket” while “almost having a cardiac arrest”.
As Greg deliberates on which of John and Sophie is going to earn first place, John keenly points out yet again that “Mine is massive.”, but he also acknowledges that Sophie’s drawing is “a nicer piece of art”. Greg agrees, but decides that he will also reward the scale of John’s picture, so he awards both John and Sophie joint first place, and 5 points each.
