Steve juices oranges with a cheese grater and his armpit

After reading the initial task brief in the living room, Steve acts out a church confessional scene, with Alex playing the part of the priest, and Steve guiltily confessing to him that his favourite piece of kitchen equipment is a cheese grater. He then screams “armpit” into Alex’s face, and declares “hosepipe” at him in a slightly feminine voice.

Having read the follow-up task brief in the lab, Steve’s first thought is to breach the skin and pith of the orange using the cheese grater.

He holds an orange in his armpit and uses the cheese grater to shave off the rind. Despite also damaging his shirt in the process, he appears to succeed in this before attempting to squeeze juice out of the orange using his own armpit. He manages to get some juice out of the first orange in this way, but struggles to do so with a second, while his face turns red with the strain.

Faced with the prospect of attempting to juice further oranges with his technique, Steve asks Alex if there’s a smaller grater lying around, as he’s worried about grating his own nipples off.

Steve then wrings out all of the juice that’s seeped into his shirt already, leading Alex to observe that it looks like he’s milking himself.

After struggling to squeeze juice from another orange, Steve is clearly exhausted, and just lets the rest of his remaining time run out.

In the studio, Greg notes how terrified he and the audience had felt as they watched Steve “grating his armpit”, noting that it felt like a Saw movie. He also compares the amount of effort Steve had put into juicing the oranges to that of an Olympic weightlifter, and Alex illustrates this by sharing a still from the video of his attempt.

Ultimately, despite all of his effort, Steve only manages to collect 13 millilitres of orange juice, and he receives just 1 point.
