Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Carry a briefcase of either nothing or onions across the stage and place it on the mat.

The Taskmaster will then attempt to guess what you are carrying - nothing or onions.

If he guesses correctly, you are eliminated.

If you deceive him, you qualify for another round.

Most deceptions wins.

Task notes

  • In the 20 January 2023 episode of the Taskmaster: The People's Podcast, New Zealand task writer Sam Smith revealed that the task was originally written to give the contestants a choice between a briefcase full of bricks or a briefcase full of balloons (exactly as it ended up later being adapted on Taskmaster UK), but they ended up switching to using onions because they had so many left over from the production of other tasks (most likely referring to the Build a tower using onions task, where they had an entire bathtub full). He also shared that Paul Williams came up with the initial bare bones of the idea for the task (basically, just the idea of the contestants walking across the stage, holding a briefcase).
