Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!
- Bruce Dessau came up with a customised itinerary for Alex's time in Melbourne, based on each of Alex's previous stand-up shows. Firstly, he recommended a visit to Melbourne Aquarium, based on Alex's 2003 show Making Fish Laugh. Secondly, he recommended attending the comedy 'mind-reading' show Simon Taylor: Pieces of Mind, based on Alex's 2004 show Every Body Talks, which was about reading people's body language. Thirdly, he recommended attending a Latin mass, based on Alex's 2005 show When In Rome, which was about the dead language of Latin. Fourth, Bruce recommended eating at the restaurant The Aviary, based on Alex's 2007 show Birdwatching, which recounted Alex's experience of trying to beat his father at spotting birds. He suggested that Alex should take a look at an online dictionary of Australian slang, based on Alex's 2008 show Wordwatching, in which he recounts his attempts to get a new word into the English dictionary. Connected with this theme, he also recommended Alex use the car rental firm Honk, in reference to Alex's attempt to get the word 'honk' to take off as a slang term for money. Bruce recommended that Alex visit the jazz club Bennetts Lane, based on Alex's 2010 The Horne Section show. Finally, he recommended that Alex spend some time at the Crown Casino, based on Alex's 2010 show Odds, in which he recounted his attempt to win an outlandish bet.
- Josie Long made arrangements for Alex to be introduced to the most famous horse in Melbourne by the Mayor of Melbourne, and to be given a tour of the State Library Victoria (including viewing Ned Kelly's armour). She told him to visit the Sticky Institute fanzine shop, in the Degraves Street Subway, and introduce himself at the counter to receive something from them. She recommended that he eat Indian food from Red Pepper Restaurant on Bourke Street, and Vietnamese food from Pho Bo Ga Mekong Vietnam restaurant on Swanston Street, or from somewhere in 'Vietnam Town' on Victoria Street. She told him to go shopping on Brunswick Street, walk along the beach at St Kilda, eat cakes on Acland Street, visit a bookshop on Gertrude Street, drink espresso from a place called Brother Baba Budan on Little Bourke Street, and eat at Harambe Restaurant on Nicholson Street. She also recommended he watch comedy performances by Geraldine Hickey, Lawrence Leung, Andrew McClelland, Felicity Ward, and Josh Thomas. Finally, she told Alex to run around the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.
- Stuart Goldsmith told Alex to complete the following task during daylight hours: "Get yourself to Bourke St, outside the fine art gallery at the corner of bourke st and queen st. You'll need the attached mp3 file, some headphones, and an mp3 player. Also a tram ticket and a black canvas bag or nearest equivalent. (a scarf would do - anything with which a human could be blindfolded easily.) Stand next to the art gallery, facing across the road, then put on your headphones and play this mp3." It is not known what message awaited Alex in the mp3 file.
- Lloyd Langford simply gave Alex the name of a friend of his who lived in Melbourne, and no other details, and told him to "Track her down and give her a hug from me", noting that he should "Probably introduce yourself first, otherwise it could lead to complications." The name of this individual has been redacted here, but it seems likely that she was working in scheduling with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival at that time.
- Mark Watson told Alex that he would be present in Melbourne along with Alex, to provide him with a ten minute experience in person. In episode 29 of the Taskmaster podcast, Mark revealed he'd 'lured' Alex to a hotel in Melbourne, where he'd then forced him to go up and down in a lift together while reading out messages to him about their friendship, which he had written on postcards.
- Steven Hall simply told Alex to go to The European restaurant on Spring Street and order both the tiramisu and the crème brûlée.
- Dan Atkinson simply told Alex to "PURCHASE AND WEAR IN PUBLIC AN AUSTRALIAN RULES FOOTBALL PLAYERS TOP".
