Task brief

The task brief is laid on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

What did the guy with the ladder look like?

Sketch their likeness on the canvas.

Most accurate likeness wins.

You have 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Also on the table, there is a fishbowl containing a fake fish.
  • Next to the table, there is a canvas on an easel, and a pot of assorted marker pens.
  • Before the contestants can read the task brief, the light directly above them begins to flicker, and Tom Cashman and the production crew pretend that this wasn’t planned, calling in someone to fix the issue for them.
  • The man who arrives with a step ladder to fix the light is an actor. After he gets up on the ladder, he sends Tom out of the room to fetch his screwdriver from the kitchen, giving the contestants some time alone with him in the lab.
  • The actor says a number of nonsense things about the light while he’s looking at it, claiming that it contains a “data sensor”, and that it’s “fluid”-based.
  • After he ‘fixes’ the light and leaves the lab, the man heads outside and waits by the shed, just in case any of the contestants go looking for him.
  • Something that none of the contestants notice is that there is a small cut-out photo of the man within the fishbowl on the table in front of them.
  • The contestants’ drawings are judged based on how many accurate features they include, rather than how good the drawings are.
