In this version of the task, the contestants are forbidden from interfering with the chain reaction once it's started, and they are not required to make a BB gun the final element. Also, there is no bonus point on offer for using a specific piece of equipment within the chain reaction.

Task brief

The task brief is spat out of a red box, at the end of a complicated chain reaction machine which has been set up on the table in the study. The brief for the task is as follows:

Create a chain reaction that causes the balloon to burst.

You can't affect the chain reaction as you go, you can only start it.

The balloon must burst within 33 minutes.

The chain reaction with the most elements wins.

Task notes

After they’ve read the task brief, Olli hands the contestants an inflated blue balloon, which contains confetti. This is the only balloon they can use, and so must look after it while building their chain reactions.
