Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Pour the most sand in your receptacle.

There will be 90 seconds for initial pouring.

There will be an additional round, in which you may each individually take turns to pour your remaining sand into any player’s receptacle.

The order of pouring for the additional round will be from lowest to highest, in current series order.

Most-filled receptacle wins.

However, if your receptacle overflows, you will be knocked out.

The first round will begin on Tom’s whistle.

Task notes

The contestants are lined up side-by-side on stage, standing behind a long table with a decorative facade.
In front of each contestant, there is a large red funnel connected to a tube which runs through the surface of the table, and connects to one of five bottles stood on the floor below.
Each contestant has also been provided with a metal flask containing different coloured sand.
The contestants cannot see the bottles from behind the table, so have no idea how full they are.
According to one of the audience members from this episode, this task took a very long time to complete, since the tubes kept clogging up with sand, and members of the production team had to keep unclogging them. This explains Tom Gleeson’s subsequent comment, upon learning of the need for a tie-breaker task, about the episode taking “even longer” to finish filming.
