The task brief is laid on top of a grid of cans on the table in the lab, and is held down by an old-fashioned, non-mechanical can opener. The brief for the task is as follows:
Spill the potato water.

Task notes
- There are 144 cans on the table, all labelled as if they contain potatoes, though 143 of them actually contain beans.
- The can which actually contains potatoes has a slightly different label on it, which features the word ‘rigtige’ (‘real’) above the word ‘kartofler’ (‘potatoes’).
- The can containing actual potatoes is also surrounded by eight cans which have red dots on their bases. A clue to this is provided through a small diagram on the back of the task brief.
- Next to the table, there is an empty bathtub.
