Task brief

The task brief is presented on the mantelpiece in the main room. The brief for the task is as follows:

Find the naughty elf.

If you touch a gift, you have to open it.

If you find the Taskmaster’s picture, you are disqualified.

You have 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

The room has been set up with 12 identical square tables in a grid, each of which holds one of 12 boxes which have been decorated as identically-wrapped gifts.
Antoine appears not to be present for this task, as he’s actually hiding underneath one of the tables, with his head through a hole underneath the box.
Antoine is not the ‘naughty elf’ the contestants are looking for – he is mainly there to give them a scare. The actual naughty elf is a doll underneath one of the other boxes.
It’s not mentioned during the episode, because no-one spots it, but there is a framed diagram of the tables on the mantelpiece which shows what is hidden underneath each box.
The contents of every box are not shown being revealed during the task, but in addition to the elf, Antoine’s head, and the framed photo of Louis, they include: ball pool balls, a fishbowl full of cranberry sauce (and a small towel for hand-wiping), a series of several ever-smaller wrapped boxes, and a festive table centrepiece with a confetti cannon in the middle (which then fires).
