Task brief

The task brief is delivered to the contestants at the front door of the Taskmaster house by a radio-controlled car, which is shown jumping a ramp in slow-motion, and smashing through some wooden blocks. The brief for the task is as follows:

Do something that looks brilliant when sped up or slowed down.

You have one hour.

Your time starts now.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Dave’s video incorporates both sped up and slowed down segments. It begins with a close up of his face, and speeds up as he inflates a balloon, which obscures his face. The video then slows down as the balloon bursts, sending glitter (which had been inside) flying everywhere. It is also revealed, as this happens, that Dave is now magically wearing sunglasses (which he’d presumably just popped on while inflating the balloon). He earns 3 points.
  • Sara’s video is called ‘Rock Robot’ and features slightly sped up footage. The film begins with her building a robot from boxes and tubes. She then she flicks a switch, and the robot comes to life, and starts dancing with her. In the studio, Greg comments that films often depict technology as destructive or frightening, so “why not have a nice dancing robot?”. Sara confirms that her film was a story about loneliness, companionship, and then “boogying”. She earns joint first place, with Rob. [Note: In the 100th episode of Taskmaster: The People's Podcast, Alex Horne revealed that (as far as he recalled) the individual inside the robot suit was Joel Porter, who is a podcast producer and the artist behind all of the main portraits of Greg, each series.]
  • Al’s video features slowed down footage. In his film, he is dressed in a leopard-print smock, and is wearing a black wig. He is seen swinging a mallet at a giant gong and, as he does so, his wig accidentally falls off. The whole thing is filmed (using greenscreen) in front of a red curtain, to replicate the old Rank Organisation movie idents. The words “Taskmaster is Presented in Murray Vision” appear at the end of the film. Because he’d already used the gong in a previous task, and hadn’t meant for his wig to fall off, Al earns 2 points.
  • Paul’s video features both slowed down and sped up footage. He is seen comes out of the Taskmaster house and kicking a football high into the air. The football then slows down, as it soars above the house and trees, and before it falls back down to earth, Paul is seen running really quickly around the house four times, and arriving back in time to kick the ball away again. Greg is pleasantly surprised, and awards Paul 3 points.
  • Rob’s video features slowed down footage. He is seen exiting the front door of the Taskmaster house, wearing goggles and wielding a cricket bat. He then yells while using the cricket bat to hit various hit foodstuffs being thrown at him by the production crew. Specifically, he bats away a bag of frozen peas, a watermelon, and a bag of flour. He then shakes his head and sticks his tongue out triumphantly. In the studio, Greg asks what the narrative behind Rob’s film is, and Rob shares that the story was “belt some shit out of some fruit and veg”. However, Greg awards him joint first place with Sara, based on the fact that he could “imagine a narrative”.
