John enters the world of paste

Despite being told that he could choose to stick any object in the world (that he could grab in two minutes), John immediately fixates on the wooden chopping board on the table in front of him. However, after picking it up and feeling its weight, he immediately regrets his decision.

To stick the chopping board to the whiteboard, John decides to place many small dots of blue tack to the board, theorising that if he adds enough, it might hold. Pushing the chopping board against the whiteboard, he asks Alex to start the clock, although he initially fumbles his words and says “cock”. The board remains stuck to the whiteboard for just 29 seconds before falling off, so John has to consider additional adhesive options.

John grabs the flour and honey from the shelves, and decides to mix the two into a paste-like substance. As he does so, his confidence in the plan grows, and he comments that the paste is starting to look a lot like glue. Getting cocky, he begins to suggest that there may be engineers watching the show, thinking to themselves, “He's absolutely nailed this!”. Becoming quite enamoured with his glue plan, John then starts grandly describing how “for centuries, humankind has been mixing…[substances to create glue?]” but then cuts himself off, after sticking his finger into the paste to test it, and finding that it isn’t as adhesive as he’d thought, commenting despondently “No, that’s absolute crap”.

Stuck with his ineffective paste, John decides to add dots of it to the back of the chopping board, to supplement the blue tack, but then admits that he feels that all he is actually doing with it is making the board heavier. Regardless, he pushes ahead and again holds the chopping board against the whiteboard before asking Alex to restart the timer. This time, the board only remains stuck for 20 seconds, before falling to the ground, causing John to shout “Shit the bed!” in frustration.

In the studio, Greg tells John that he’d had real hope for him, and was imagining that John might just become the “face” of blue tack. Greg also highlights John’s development of the honey-flour glue, and Alex chimes in to note that John had announced, after the blue tack had failed, that “We’re now entering the world of paste”.

John is ultimately disqualified from the task, for failing to stick his chosen item to the board for a minute.
