Episode synopsis

In this episode, the contestants must bring in the secret to their success, play a legally distinct wooden block game, relive the best moment of their lives, be the most excited to meet their team-mates, make a leaning tower out of dry pasta, and fan out their flames.

Madeleine Sami represents Tofiga Fepulea’i in the studio for this episode.

Title context

Hayley Sproull attempts to claim that the rubber band used in her team’s pasta tower is “Made entirely from slightly sucked pasta”, during studio discussion of the ‘Make a leaning tower of dry pasta’ task.

Taskmaster Intro

Kia ora koutou katoa, and welcome to the second episode of season five of Taskmaster New Zealand. My name is Jeremy Wells, and while you may have seen me playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 under the pseudonym ‘DeathLord 69’, here in this room, I am known by the far more threatening title of the Taskmaster. Tonight, five comedians will compete in a series of absurd and pointless tasks in a desperate bid to get their hands on this... a beautiful golden trophy made to look exactly like the head of late ‘90s television icon Newsboy.

Note: 'Kia ora koutou katoa' is Māori for 'Hello everyone'. Jeremy played the role of Newsboy on the 1990s weekday night magazine-style TV show Havoc, hosted by Mikey Havoc.

Assistant Intro

And to my left is the person who answers the question ‘What if you combined Siri and Alexa, and turned them into a single human man with sadness in his eyes?’. Ladies and gentlemen ― Paul Williams!

Taskmaster's Sign-off

Thank you for joining us for another episode of Taskmaster tonight. We’ve learnt how important it is to really make something of your life, so that your single greatest achievement isn’t watching an amateur production of Little Shop of Horrors, or chucking a tennis ball at a block of wood. But most importantly, we’ve learnt that the winner of Taskmaster season five, episode two, is Abby Howells!
