Task brief

For the team of three, the task brief is laid on a platform in the centre of the table in the lab. For the team of two, it is presumably handed to them by Paul. The brief for the task is as follows:

Make a leaning tower of dry pasta.

If you break one of the three secret rules, you must step away from the tower, and Paul will trigger a punishment.

You cannot interfere with the punishment devices.

Best and most leaning pasta tower wins.

You have 25 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The platform on the table turns out to have some kind of mechanism within it to make it shake, when switched on.
  • Either side of the platform, there are a variety of types of dry pasta, including lasagna sheets, spaghetti, and bowls containing other pasta shapes.
  • In front of the table, set up on two smaller tables covered with red velvet cloths, there are two large electric fans, pointing towards the centre of the main table.
  • For the team of three, there is for some reason also a plinth in the room.
  • If the contestants say any words beginning with a ‘P’, Paul turns on the fans for a certain period or time, and the contestants must step away from the table until this time has passed.
  • If the contestants touch one another, Paul turns on the shaking platform for a certain period of time, and the contestants must step away from the table until this time has passed.
  • If the contestants speak in an Italian accent, a large meatball is swung across the middle of the table, from one side of the room.
  • Paul attempts to encourage the contestants to break the last rule by repeatedly speaking in an Italian accent himself, throughout the task.
