Put these things in order
- In this task, the contestants are presented with a seemingly random collection of objects, and must determine the correct order in which they should be arranged.
- The correct order for the objects is based on association and/or plays on words.
- In some versions, the objects are chosen because they either start with - or sound like they start with - the numbers one through five, and the correct order is thus numerical, based on their names.
- In other versions, the objects are chosen to represent the planets of the solar system, and the correct order is the order of those planets.
Adaptations
In this version of the task, the contestants must attempt to place a series of objects in the 'correct' order. They are required to choose a ‘pleasant’ word before opening the task brief, and must then say that word in between the beats of a metronome.
In this version of the task, the objects are to be arranged in the order of the planets of the solar system, since each of them represents one of the planets, either directly by name (e.g. a Mars bar representing Mars), symbolically (e.g. a fork, representing a trident, representing Neptune) or through strained wordplay (e.g. a shoe full of pita bread representing Jupiter).
