Paul Ego
Biography
Paul Ego is a New Zealand comedy veteran, best known for his many years as the Team 1 Captain on the hit TV show 7 Days.
He is also a popular guest on TVNZ's Have You Been Paying Attention?.
He is a much-in-demand live and corporate performer, and his rapid wit has seen him described as 'The Master of Improv'.
When is he not voicing 'Stickman' for one of Aotearoa's largest yellow supermarkets, he is either on stage or at home with his one wife and two sons.
Although he's now a household comedy name, Paul started his performing life as a singer in the band The Yes Men.
Paul tried stand-up comedy for the first time while spending time in London. It was not terrible, and he was hooked.
Upon returning home to New Zealand in 1995, Paul soon became a regular name on the NZ comedy scene, his quick wit making him a popular MC and improviser.
His radio career began when fellow comedian Jeremy Corbett and on-air partner Kim Adamson asked Paul to come up with some comedy ideas and characters for their Kim & Corbett Breakfast Show on MoreFM. Paul was part of the KaC team for 6 years, during which time the show became the benchmark in entertaining morning radio.
In 2006, Paul left MoreFM to join The Morning Rumble on The Rock. Success followed Paul here also, with the show winning Best Breakfast Show at the NZ Radio Awards, four years running.
In 2011 7 Days gave Paul the chance to take a leap of faith from radio to TV. Now, over 300 episodes deep and with the show in its 12th year, it seems it was a leap well made. The show also hits the road at the end of each year with the 7 Days Live Tour.
