Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Marcus immediately has the idea of crumpling the task brief into a ball and moving it with a power washer. David is immediately sceptical about this plan, and says he’ll only make it a few metres. Marcus goes on regardless, cutting a hole in an inflatable ball, stuffing the task brief inside, sealing it with duct tape, and then struggling to blow air into it. When Marcus asks for assistance with plugging in the power washer, David agrees on the condition that Marcus admits his idea is terrible. Just as predicted, the ball only travels 8.6 metres, which David mocks him for. He earns just 1 point.
  • Sussie builds a slingshot using a resistance band. She cuts the task brief into thin strips, which she puts into a bucket of water, and then packs them tightly together and wraps them in duct tape to create a ball. She then launches the ball 19.2 metres with her slingshot, earning 4 points.
  • Sofia is immediately disappointed at herself for not having her phone in her pocket. She asks to borrow David’s phone, or for him to fetch her phone, both of which he declines. She experiments with a fishing rod, until David happens to mention remote-controlled cars and she starts searching for one, before David mentions there isn’t one in the shed. Sofia abandons the fishing rod after losing her train of thought. She then punctures a soccer ball with a screwdriver, cuts the paper into strips, cuts open the ball along its seam, stuffs the paper inside, and seals it back up with duct tape. Before kicking the ball stuffed with paper, she attempts to kick a few other footballs to practice. Her first three kicks all manage to hit the same tree about 10 metres in front of the shed, but subsequent attempts make it about 25 metres. Her attempt with the paper-stuffed ball is one of her best, but it bounces off a rock and doesn’t roll very far. Her final result is 14.7 metres, and she earns 3 points.
  • Anis tapes the task brief to a plastic saucer-shaped pulk (a small sled). He then rolls the saucer pulk about 10 metres, only to be disappointed in himself. He asks David to bring the pulk back to him, and when he declines, gets to work on a mechanism to bring it back. He attaches a rope to a hook, and after a few attempts at throwing the hook onto the saucer, manages to land it in its handle and pull it back to the shed. His next attempt to roll the pulk veers off to the right but still travels about 15 metres. However, he tells David that he thinks he could do even better, and immediately starts chucking the hook to retrieve the pulk again. Despite repeated attempts, the thrown contraption only manages to dent the saucer, making it even harder to move. Anis eventually gives up after 55 minutes, and his final result is 14.5 metres, which earns him 2 points.
  • Johanna asks if she’s allowed to call a taxi, and David says she can. She thinks out loud about what the best place for her to go would be, coming up with the idea of going to Arlanda airport and giving it to someone boarding a flight, before catching herself midway through her train of thought and realising she can’t go in the taxi herself. She still decides to call a cab, but gets stuck in the taxi service’s virtual phone queue with a frustratingly slow AI assistant. After the cab is booked, she calls her podcast partner Edvin Törnblom and asks if she can taxi the task brief to his address. He agrees to this, despite being in the middle of recording something in downtown Stockholm. The task brief makes it 9,800 metres away, so Johanna is awarded 5 points. However, Johanna also realises that she’d forgotten to pay for the taxi, and that Edwin had been stuck with the 425 SEK [c£30] bill.
