Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Kiell brings in an image of a surgical glove on a foot, which Greg immediately admits makes him feel weird. Jenny seems to think that it was just something Kiell came across, rather than something he intentionally created. Alex notes that it is possible to buy latex gloves for your feet, and then proceeds to demonstrate that he is currently wearing some underneath his regular socks (claiming that he "normally" does wear them, and has been doing so for every episode of the show to date). Kiell shares that he knew his prize submission had to be something to do with feet, because "feet are weird, innit?". Greg ultimately awards him first place.
  • Mae brings in a small mirror, which they claim can cause a "deep existential crisis". Describing the experience of staring into a mirror at oneself, they pose the question "What are we? Are we the meat? Are we the viewer?". They share that an experiment carried out in 2010 found that 66% of people who stared into a mirror for 10 minutes experienced seeing "huge deformations" in their own faces. Greg shares that he had tried that himself, and had the same experience, but points out that it only happens if you look at the reflective surface of the mirror, not when you stare at the other side. He argues, therefore, that Mae's object itself isn't the thing that makes you feel weird, but rather it's the image of your own face. He ultimately awards them joint last place, along with Jenny.
  • Ivo brings in some reading glasses which fasten together between the eyes using magnets. He shares that he gets creeped out every time his uncle detaches his magnetic reading glasses. Greg cannot relate to this, and doesn't find the glasses to be that weird. Ivo goes all out in defence of his submission, suggesting that Kiell and Mae's own submissions don't meet the brief, since no-one normally wears gloves on their feet, or stares into a mirror for 10 minutes, whereas he has to regularly see his uncle removing his glasses. Greg ends up awarding him third place.
  • Jenny brings in a 'Magic Eye' picture book, featuring stereoscopic images, hidden in seemingly random patterns, which are revealed when the viewer looks at them in the correct manner. Alex displays a full-screen example of one of the images on screen, and insists that Greg try to find the hidden image. While Greg is looking at the screen, the photo of him reclining mostly naked on the floor (repeatedly used in Rhod Gilbert's prize task submissions, during series 9) is briefly flashed on screen. Alex reveals that the actual hidden image is of a steam train. Greg awards her joint last place, along with Mae.
  • Frankie brings in some examples of medieval paintings of cats, pointing out that people in the Middle Ages just couldn't draw cats correctly, for some reason. Greg awards him fourth place.
