Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Jenny brings in a photo of herself with her grandson, who she says is the "luckiest lad" because she's "his nanna". Greg awards her fourth place.
  • Frankie brings in a tote bag that was left at a theatre for him by a fan. The bag features painted portraits of Frankie himself, along with his daughter's dog, his "crow friend" Arnold Bartleby, and a squirrel. It also features a thought bubble, coming from Frankie's head, which contains a painting of Snow White, and the phrase "Bonniest and fairest of them all". Frankie says that the bag is lucky, since the run of gigs he did when he received the bag was very good, so he now keeps it in his suitcase when touring. Greg awards him joint third place.
  • Kiell brings in a scratchcard bought by someone whom he says is the luckiest woman in Britain, Jolene Stanley. Alex shares that Jolene has won £70,000 worth of prizes from competitions since 2012. He also points out that Jolene is probably the women in Britain who enters the most competitions, which somewhat takes the shine off the claim that she's the luckiest women. However, Greg awards him first place, noting that it's the first time Kiell has really put any effort into his prize submission.
  • Mae brings in a pair of sunglasses onto which they have stuck a number of lucky charms, including four leaf clovers, rabbits feet, and a horse shoe. Alex attempts to verify with Mae that the rabbit's feet are left hind feet from rabbits which were captured or killed in a cemetry, and were removed from the rabbits on a Friday, on the grave of a mean person (which are apparently the rules of that particular superstition). Mae earns second place.
  • Ivo brings in a mortarboard hat with the following items attached to the top of it: a maneki neko Japanese bobtail cat figurine; a figurine of the former Manchester United footballer Steve Bruce (who he says has brought him luck in his career by writing some terrible detective novels that Ivo then got paid to review on a podcast); two playing cards (seven of clubs and two of diamonds) representing his lucky hand, when he used to play a lot of poker; and a silver spoon, which he acknowledges was in his mouth when he was born. He argues that Frankie had earned lots of points in the previous episode for "putting a load of random guff on a graduation hat", so he'd decided to do the same. Greg awards him joint third place.
