Task briefs

The first task brief is wrapped around an air rocket on the table in the lab. The second and third task briefs are in Alex’s pocket, ready to be presented if needed. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Put a rocket in your pocket.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.**

If you draw, make or write your own rocket, that doesn't count as an actual rocket unless you are a rocket scientist.

If you are not a rocket scientist, you must now put two rockets in your pockets.

If you swear at any point after drawing, making or writing your own rocket, you must now put three rockets in your pockets.

Task notes

  • The lab is unlit except for a red rotary light positioned just outside the entrance, behind the plastic sheeting, and a smoke machine is being used to add to the atmosphere.
  • The contestants are not allowed to touch the task brief until Alex has counted down from five through a megaphone, the main lights turn on in the lab, and the rocket has been fired, sending the envelope a short distance into the air.
  • If the contestants put the air rocket in their pocket, Alex insists that it is not a rocket, but just a ‘tube’, since it does not have any fins.
  • There are small modelling clay models of rockets with fins hidden around the house, including: inside the mouth of the model of the orca, in the living room; inside a fake power socket next to the front door; inside a model of a skull in the caravan; inside a pineapple-shaped pot in the living room; inside the matryoshka doll of Charlotte Ritchie, in the hallway; and inside a metallic golden pineapple in the hallway.
  • There are also print-outs of parts of rockets hidden around the house, including one under the leg of the table in the living room.
  • In addition, there are rocket-shaped sweets among the space-themed sweets in a jar on the window sill in the kitchen, and a bag of rocket leaves in the fridge.
  • There is also a model of a rocket inside the dome, but it’s way too big for anyone to put in their pocket.
  • If the contestants make their own rockets, Alex hands them the second task brief.
  • If the contestants then swear about the second task brief, Alex hands them the third one.
