The brief for the task is as follows:

You may not touch the other team’s balls or buckets or spoons.
You must always be on your side of the fence, and your ball must always be on the other.
If your ball touches the ground, you must start again.
Fastest wins.

Task notes
- The contestants are stood in their teams at either end of a white picket fence which has been erected along the front of the stage.
- At each end of the fence, there is a plinth upon which there is a stack of 14 red or blue tennis balls, a small bucket attached to the fence post containing three long-handled wooden spoons of the same colour as the balls, and a bucket on the floor which is the opposite colour to the balls.
- A fourth spoon of each colour is held between two small pieces of wood attached to the fence posts, with a fifteenth tennis ball of the same colour already balanced on the end.
- Alex clarifies that the spoons holding the balls must always be inserted through the middle section of the fence, between the two horizontal bars.
- In a reference to the set-up of the ‘Eat the yoghurt with the most/least dignity’ task earlier in the episode, a pen has been suspended from the studio ceiling so that it is dangling at head height next to Alex.
