Task briefs

The initial task brief is found inside a large glass vase on a plinth at the far end of the garden. Four additional task briefs are attached to each of the obstacles along ‘Route A’, along one side of the lawn. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Put at least six litres of water in the vase.

You must either use bucket ‘A’ and route ‘A’, or bucket ‘B’ and route ‘B’.

If you choose ‘A’, you must complete one of the tasks at every obstacle.

If you choose ‘B’, you must trot throughout.

You must stay within the arena at all times, and must never touch the vase.

Fastest wins.

You have 30 seconds to pick your bucket, and that time has just started.

At the start of the slalom:

Keep doing what you’re doing.

At the start of the slalom:

Make a puddle on the path using all the water in your bucket.

At the start of the slalom:

Continue the obstacle course.

At the start of the play tunnel:

Take a big, deep breath and persist.

At the start of the play tunnel:

Turn your bucket upside-down onto the path right now.

At the start of the play tunnel:

Pop all the water out of your bucket and out of the arena.

Attached to the limbo bar:

Carry on.

Attached to the limbo bar:

Immediately empty your bucket outside the arena.

Attached to the limbo bar:

Hope you’re having a nice time.

Task notes

  • The lawn has been divided into two routes with bunting. ‘Route A’ consists of a series of obstacles – a slalom, a play tunnel, and a limbo bar – while ‘Route B’ is completely clear.
  • At the other end of the lawn from the vase, there is a bathtub full of water, with some rubber ducks of various sizes floating in it.
  • Either side of the bathtub, there are two plinths with red buckets on top of them. Bucket A has a series of small holes drilled into the bottom, so it leaks water slowly. Bucket B has a single, very large hole cut into the bottom, so it leaks water very quickly.
  • Alex clarifies that ‘the arena’ refers to the lawn.
  • The volume of the vase turns out to be just over 6 litres, meaning that the contestants must almost completely fill it with water to complete the task.
