Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Steinar stretches the inner tube around the grill outside the house, as a back-up plan. He then collects three large barrels, and a variety of other objects, which he stretches the inner tube around, collectively. His attempt is treated dubiously, with the argument being made that it was not one item and, in the end, the attempt scored was his back-up plan of the grill. To his delight, he earns third place.
  • Einar realises that he can make a really long object, which will be easy to pass through the tube. He collects a variety of long objects and tapes them together to become a single item, then passes this item through the inner tube. He earns second place.
  • Ida tapes together two large barrels and a sofa, and then manages to pass the inner tube around them all together, in the last couple of minutes, without the assembly falling apart. She earns first place.
  • Amir takes a very lateral approach to the task, choosing to write a tale about the Earth, and how it goes through many time periods, including one which he calls the “inner tube” period. Although Atle does not like his creative solution one bit, thanks to Solveig’s misunderstanding of the task, he still manages to earn fourth place.
  • Solveig misunderstands the task, and thinks she needs to put something through the interior of the inner tube, via its valve, rather than just passing something through the ring that it forms. She comes up with what she thinks is a much smarter solution, by first cutting across the inner tube, to create a straight tube, and then cutting it along its length, so that it can be spread out flat on the ground. She reason that by doing this, the whole interior surface of the inner tube is exposed and accessible, so anything that passes over it is also technically passing through it. She attaches a table and a barrel to a garden roller, and rolls this assembly of items over the flattened tube. Despite her lateral thinking, she earns last place.
