Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Rita uses her hands to remove some of the water before deciding that she needs a bucket. She settles for a hose, intending to siphon out the water. She does manage to siphon out some of the water, and uses a small bucket to remove the remaining water. When she reaches the point to where she cannot fill the bucket, Rita grabs a pillow from the nearby patio furniture and uses it to soak up the remaining water. Rita empties the tub in 11 minutes 2 seconds; however, in the studio, Nuno replays the end of Rita’s attempt - where she absentmindedly throws the soaking wet pillow back into the tub after she declares the tub emptied – and asks if her tub was truly empty in the end. As Rita took the longest time to empty the tub anyway, Vasco sidesteps the need to rule whether or not Rita’s tub was actually empty, and she earns last place.
  • Inês immediately starts searching for a bucket. She quickly finds a small one and frantically begins bailing out the tub. Not much more is shown in Inês' footage, so presumably she used the bucket the entire time, before switching to some sort of cloth to soak up what she could not remove with the bucket. Inês empties the tub in 6 minutes 50 seconds and earns fourth place.
  • Gilmário decides to siphon the water from the tub, and puts Nuno to work holding the other end of the hose in the tub while the water drains. Gilmário uses a helmet to help empty the tub while the siphon continues its work. To get the last dregs of water, Gilmário uses what appears to be a tangled mass of cloth ropes from the shed. Gilmário empties the tub in 6 minutes 10 seconds and earns second place.
  • Jessica uses a large plastic container to bail out some water, then climbs into the tub alternating between using her hands and the plastic container to continue removing the water. When the water reaches a much lower level, Jessica sources a helmet and a paddle from the shed, and uses both to remove water (presumably the large plastic container was unable to scoop up much water at that point). When she gets down to the last bits of water, Jessica uses a pillow from the nearby patio furniture to soak up the rest. Jessica almost throws the wet pillow back into the tub, but changes the direction of her throw last minute and throws it away from the tub – this appears to be an unconscious thing and not that she realised that throwing the pillow in the tub would mean that it wasn’t empty. Jessica empties the tub in 6 minutes 40 seconds and earns third place. Vasco also awards her a bonus point for being the only person to actually get into the tub, which he had expected more of the contestants to do.
  • After using a helmet to bail out some water, Toy searches the shed for a better tool, emerging with a wheelbarrow. The wheelbarrow barely fits in the tub, but Toy is still able to remove some water with it. He eventually goes back to using the helmets. When he gets down to the last bits of water, Toy uses what appears to be a tangled mess of cloth ropes from the shed to soak up the rest. Toy empties the tub in 4 minutes 56 seconds, and wins the task.
