Task brief

The contestants receive the task brief in the study. The brief for the task is as follows:

Prove your smarter than the other contestants.

Smartest contestant wins.

You have 5²- √25 minutes.

You're time starts now.

Task notes

  • A bare lightbulb glows on the desk, alongside an old-fashioned mechanical calculator.
  • A chalkboard has also been set up next to the desk, covered with complicated-looking mathematical diagrams and formulae.

  • Chris decided to get a massage from Paul as a smarter use of his time instead of completing the task. He received 5 points.
  • Josh noticed that there was a spelling mistake in the task, pointing out it should say 'you're smarter', not 'your smarter', then broke a telescope before trying to draw the columns of the Classical period, getting them wrong. He received 2 points.
  • Justine got Paul to quiz her on general knowledge, getting the majority of questions wrong. She received 1 point.
  • Kura used Google Translate to teach the audience Māori. She received 4 points.
  • Paul noticed that there was a spelling mistake in the task, pointing out it should say 'you're smarter', not 'your smarter', then left the room. He received 3 points.
