Task briefs

The task brief is pinned to a washing line in the garden of the Kongen Befaler house. The briefs for the task are as follows:

To everyone except Karin:

Find the sock with the clementine inside as fast as possible.

You cannot look inside any of the socks.

You can squeeze five socks, hit five socks, and smell five socks.

Your time starts now.

To Karin only:

Find the sock with the clementine inside as fast as possible.

You cannot look inside any of the socks.

You can squeeze five socks, hit five socks, and smell five socks.

You must look into the camera and smile a mischievous smile every 15 seconds.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • The task takes place in the garden of the Kongen Befaler house, where a large number (at least 24) of red socks are hung from a washing line with clothes pegs.
  • Each sock contains a different object, including a lemon, an apple, a pear, and the clementine which is actually being sought.
  • In the studio, Olli says that the contestants could have tried socks on, but this isn't specified in the task brief as shown in the edit, and no-one is shown doing so, either.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Hani quickly discounts a number of the socks based on the shapes of the bulges caused by the items within them. She spots one which could contain the clementine but, after a gentle squeeze, identifies that it actually contains a lemon. She then spots the correct sock and gives it a test squeeze before stating that she has found the clementine. She extracts the fruit to confirm her choice after 1 minute and 55 seconds, cursing herself slightly for having spent so much time talking at the start of the task. She ultimately earns third place.
  • Not much is shown of Vidar's attempt, but It appears that he squeezes some of the socks before spotting the correct one near the middle of the line. He pulls out the clementine and throws it in Olli's face after just 33 seconds, earning himself second place. However, after Bård gives Karin the opportunity to switch places with another contestant, she eventually chooses Vidar, so he earns zero points for the task instead.
  • Leo starts off by squeezing the socks, using four of his squeezes up on the ones at the very start of the line. He then walks to the middle of the line and seems to identify the correct sock by sight. He pulls out the clementine and gives it to Olli after just 11 seconds, earning first place in the task.
  • Lars chooses not to use any of the options available to him, and just aims to guess at the correct sock as quickly as possible. As he reads the final word of the task brief, he punches and vocally chooses the sock nearest to him. Unfortunately, this sock turns out to contain an apple, so Lars earns no points.
  • Karin is not sure why her attempt at the task has been separated from the others, since she has no memory of what happened. It is revealed that she was set the additional challenge of giving the camera a mischievous smile, every 15 seconds, which clearly interferes with her efforts to identify the correct sock. During her attempt, she does initially make the smart decision to remove the clothes pegs from the socks she has eliminated, allowing them to drop to the ground. However, she appears to stop doing this after a while, and can't remember which of the remaining socks she has checked. She appears to use all of her allowed squeezes, hits and sniffs, and eventually picks a sock. Unfortunately, upon touching the chosen sock, she quickly realises that it actually contains a pear, rather than a clementine. This puts her in the position of receiving zero points. However, in recognition of the increased level of difficulty she faced, Bård gives her the opportunity to switch places with one of the other contestants and take their points. She initially chooses Leo, since he earned 5 points on the task, but then switches to Vidar after being criticised by Lars for not thinking strategically (Vidar had been leading the season up until this point). She therefore earns second place in the task instead.

Notes on task scores

  • Karin is initially awarded zero points, because she failed to find the clementine.
  • However, since she was also unfairly distracted by the additional challenge of smiling mischievously at the camera every 15 seconds, Bård decides to give her the option of swapping points with another contestant.
  • She initially wants to swap with Leo, to get his 5 points, but then switches to swapping with Vidar (who had been awarded 4 points), after being criticised for not thinking tactically by Lars (Vidar already had a large season lead by this point).
