Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Bring in something that makes Bård exclaim 'Oi, oi, oi, you big alpaca!'.

Task notes

  • "Oi, oi, oi, du store alpakka!" ["Oi, oi, oi, you big alpaca!"] was the catchphrase of the character Lektor Tørrdal, a teacher in the Stompa book series, which was the Norwegian adaptation of the Jennings books by Anthony Buckeridge, popular during the 1960s.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on collecting some images to add later!

  • Vidar brings in a wooden box containing electronics which he has had made. The box has been programmed to open only when it hears Bård say the phrase "Oi, oi, oi, you big alpaca!". Bård tests it first with a much deeper voice, and it does not open. When he uses a higher-pitched voice (as Vidar suggests he has), the box opens up immediately. Inside the box, Bård finds a 50 kroner note (c£4). Vidar ends up winning the task.
  • Karin submits two things to the prize pool. The first is that she presents an apple to Bård, while performing the splits, to impress him with her flexibility. After this doesn't make a big enough impression on him, she rolls out plan B, which is a video she took of him, before the show, in which she asks him to remind her what phrase it is she needs to make him say in the prize task. Since he does state the phrase to her in the video, she succeeds in meeting the requirements of the task. Bård ends up awarding her second place.
  • Leo brings in a video of him asking Karin to go and film Bård while asking him what phrase it is they need to make him say in the prize task. He claims that the video was taken before Karin filmed her own video, and that the idea was his. Karin protests that it was her own idea, and that Leo had approached her after she'd already filmed her video. Bård puts Leo in fourth place for trying to steal from Karin.
  • Hani brings in her UN access card, from the time she worked in the Somali delegation to the UN, in New York. She then tells the story of how, during a UN General Assembly, she entered a stairwell to find that Vladimir Putin was coming up the stairs towards her, and that Donald Trump and Mike Pence were entering the stairwell from another doorway. This story prompts the desired exclamation of "Oi, oi, oi, you big alpaca!" from Bård, but he ends up putting her in third place.
  • Lars brings in an airhorn, with ear defenders and (for some reason) a hard hat, sits on the floor, and tries to honk out the message "Oi, oi, oi, you big alpaca!" in Morse code, using a guide sheet he's also brought with him. He only gets as far as "OI OI" before Bård interrupts him to state that he knows what he's trying to do (Bård apparently has a good knowledge of Morse code), but he's not doing it very well. Lars realises that his effort is weak, in comparison to all of the others, and asks if he can stop, acknowledging that he has definitely lost the task. Bård lets him return to his seat, and awards him an appropriate last place.
