Task brief

The task brief is handwritten on a toilet roll, held by a wall-mounted toilet roll holder, in the ground floor bathroom of the mansion. The brief for the task is as follows:

Take this sheet of toilet paper as far as possible.

No sheets may break off from the roll, and only this sheet is allowed to touch the ground.

The tube must stay on the toilet roll holder throughout the whole task.

You have 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Attempts

Here's a description of the contestants' attempts. Images will be added later.

  • Eija starts slowly walking out of the bathroom, unrolling the toilet paper as she does. She drapes the paper over various pieces of furniture, to keep it off of the ground, as she makes her way through the sitting room that leads to the side door. During this process, the toilet paper actually touches the ground several times and, every time it does, she acknowledges it. She says that she knows she’ll be “docked points” (as opposed to being disqualified, as dictated by the task), but that she'll still keep going. At some point, Eija seems to forget that the task is about getting the end sheet as far away as possible, as she doubles back and forth between the side room and the patio, in order to unravel the entire roll. Regardless, as she ties the last of the toilet paper around one of the large patio pillars, Eija declares that she is happy with her “work of art”. Eija’s final distance is measured at 9 metres and 2 centimetres but, as her toilet paper touched the ground several times, she is disqualified. However, Jaakko awards her a bonus point “for persistent trying”.
  • Fathi unrolls most of the toilet paper and then backs out of the bathroom, musing that he needs to build “some sort of system”. The next we see of Fathi, he has successfully managed to stretch the toilet paper through the side room and out onto the patio. However, the toilet paper briefly touches the ground in the doorway between the mansion and the patio. Outside, Fathi runs the toilet paper down a drainpipe, in order to allow him to continue extending the roll further from the mansion. In the final seconds of his task, he drapes the last of the toilet roll onto a nearby wheelbarrow, to keep it off of the ground. Fathi’s final distance is measured at 10 metres and 24 centimetres but, as his toilet paper touched the ground, he is disqualified.
  • Kalle unrolls the entire roll before exiting the bathroom, and slowly makes his way to the front door. Just outside, Kalle runs into a problem – there is nothing in the immediate vicinity outside of the front door that he can use to keep the toilet paper off of the ground. Luckily, a member of the public walks by with her dog, and Kalle asks for her assistance in holding the toilet paper up. The woman agrees and, with her help, Kalle is able to extend the rest of the toilet roll further outside. He then holds the end sheet to the ground, declaring himself finished. Kalle’s final distance is measured as 17 metres and 45 centimetres, and he wins the task by default.
  • Immediately after reading the task brief, Miska asks if he’s allowed to just tear the toilet roll holder off of the wall. He runs to the shed, returns with a toolbox, and successfully removes the holder from the wall. Miska and Pilvi then climb into what is presumably one of the production team’s vans, and Miska starts to drive away from the mansion, still holding the toilet roll. He warns Pilvi that he is not a good driver, and this is immediately evidenced by the fact that he has left the parking brake on. He attempts to cover his embarrassment by claiming that he hasn’t driven many vans before. With five minutes left, he remembers having seen a helicopter tour facility near the mansion, and wonders if maybe he can get the toilet roll up on a helicopter in that time. As his time runs out, Miska abandons the helicopter idea, instead running down a footpath with it in his hand. Miska’s final distance is measured at 2 kilometres and 38 metres. However, Pilvi then shows some additional footage, revealing that Miska’s toilet paper had fallen off of the holder while he was running, just before time ran out. Miska is therefore disqualified.
  • Pirjo examines the toilet roll holder, and wonders whether it can be removed. She uses what appears to be a knife to remove the holder from the wall, and then hands a set of car keys (presumably for one of the production team’s cars) to Pilvi, asking if she knows how to drive. Pirjo sits in the back seat for most of the rest of her time as Pilvi drives, chiding Pilvi to drive faster. When Pilvi announces that there is only 30 seconds left, Pirjo leaves the car and runs down to the nearby shoreline. Pirjo’s final distance is measured as 750 metres. However, Pilvi then shows some additional footage, revealing that Pirjo had thrown the entire toilet roll holder – along with the roll - towards the lake, just before her time ran out. Because the entire toilet roll then landed on the ground, Pirjo is disqualified.
