The task brief is laid on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

- Also on the table, there are five small bowls of gummy sweets of different flavours.
- Between the bowls, there are small laminated pieces of paper with plus sign printed on them, indicating that the numbers associated with each flavour should be added together.
- One the right-hand wall of the lab, there is a periodic table of elements.
- On the left-hand wall, there is a menu of flavour combinations. The flavours listed on the menu (working down each column in turn, left to right), are:
- Agurk og leverpostej (Cucumber and liver pâté)
- Avocado og tabasco (Avocado and tabasco sauce)
- Bacon
- Citron og reje (Lemon and shrimp)
