In this version of the task, the contestants are first given a choice between five stovepipe hats of differing heights, without not knowing what the objective will be. Their arms are then strapped to their sides with a belt, before they are instructed to try to catch as many plastic balls in their hat as possible.
Task brief
The brief for the task is as follows:
Get as many balls into your hat as possible.
You may not remove the belt during the task.
You have two minutes.
Your time starts at the Taskmaster’s signal.
Task notes
- Before the contestants learn what the objective of the task will be, they are instructed to choose between five stovepipe hats of differing heights. They get to make this choice in an order based on how well they had performed in the previous task.
- The contestants then stand side-by-side on stage, each behind a table upon which there is a bin full of plastic balls, and each wearing their selected stovepipe hat.
- This task is therefore a hybrid of two similar tasks, with an added twist: the ‘Throw rabbits into a hat’ task, in which contestants’ arms were restricted with a belt while they attempted to get rabbits into their hat; and the ‘Catch tomatoes in your chef's hat’ task, in which there was no arm restriction, but the hats were very tall.
