Task notes

• From the Taskmaster book: “For this ultimately pointless task we made all the series 1 contestants don an enormous parrot costume in a meeting room somewhere deep in High Wycombe’s Eden shopping centre, before guiding them to a spot just outside a jewellery shop where they were to persuade passers-by to sign a piece of paper. The costume was full, heavy and unfeasibly hot... this was the one task in which we felt the comedians had to lose their dignity (as opposed to the many in which they themselves chose to shed it), and so the task was consigned to the cutting-room floor.”
• In episode 14 of the Taskmaster podcast, Alex Horne read out some notes he had made during Tim Key’s attempt at the task: “First 10 minutes spent buying £20 of sweets. Spent lots of time leant up against the wall. Almost knocked a 4-year-old over. Silent and menacing. Demanded that parents ‘sign for the sweet’. He was determined to stick to what was quite a bad plan. He waited. It was chilling and sad. Eventually, he got allies in Carphone Warehouse.”
• The costume did not go to waste, though, resurfacing in series 8 in the task where the contestants had to determine what Alex was wearing by asking only ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions.
