Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Recite pi to the most decimal places.

Your one and only attempt starts in 10 minutes.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • On the episode of Taskmaster: The People's Podcast released on 18 November 2022, Angella Dravid revealed that she had completed this task during the first season of Taskmaster NZ, but it did not make it to air. She believed that it had been filmed as a tie-breaker, which confirms what chief task writer Sam Smith had reportedly said, previously.
  • The task was presumably included as a regular pre-filmed task in this season due to the entertaining failures by Justine and Chris.

Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Chris used the revision time choreographing a mnemonic routine using various objects around the caravan. Despite reciting 21 of the first 22 numbers in pi, as Chris forgot the first number, he received 1 point.
  • Josh spent the revision time memorising the numbers, and recited pi to 13 decimal places, receiving 5 points.
  • Justine misunderstood the task and spent the revision time reading aloud the digits on the paper. After being told she had to call out the digits from memory, she only recited pi to 1 digit, receiving 2 points.
  • Kura spent the revision time memorising the numbers, and recited pi to 12 decimal places, receiving 4 points.
  • Paul spent the revision time memorising the numbers, but included random letters in his recitation. He recited pi to 9 decimal places, receiving 3 points.
